NS to operate trains Amsterdam - Utrecht - Germany from 2028
This one was widely reported this week, and for once I think this is actually going to happen!
The line from the Netherlands - Germany border to Duisburg (OpenRailwayMap) is currently being rebuilt, but once that is done there will be capacity to run some more trains, and at the moment the only international long distance passenger trains on this route are ICEs Amsterdam - Frankfurt (Main) that run every two hours. There is at least the potential for a Amsterdam - Utrecht - Arnhem - Emmerich - Duisburg - Düsseldorf - Köln train the other hours, and NS has ordered some 200km/h ICNG EMUs from Alstom that would work well for such a service.
Some problem could crop up in the meantime of course, but I think this plan is achievable!
