For me it was a journey by rail like any other: a Paris to Milan TGV between two work assignments. Until, between St Jean de Maurienne and Modane, stations near the border on the French side, four policemen passed through the train asking all passengers for passports. “Why,” I asked them, “are you controlling here, because I thought France and Italy were in the Schengen border free zone?”

My mom & dad bought their first house in #PaloAlto for about $16,000. At the time, it cost about 5 cents per hour to park downtown. Today, that same house would cost ~$3 million & it’s free to park downtown.

As an undergraduate I’d not have bothered with the views of a cranky prof writing weirdly in The Telegraph
I only held Bogdanor in high regard because of how he was 20 years ago. Time to revise my views
