UNPAJeremy has pointed me towards an appeal that has just been launched, calling for a UN Parliamentary Assembly. The campaign has plenty of high-level backers but any individual is also welcome to sign. If you care about reform of the UN and global governance it’s well worth having a look.

UPDATE – 3.5.07
I’ve also subsequently been along to the launch of the campaign in the Jubilee Room at the House of Commons. It was a strange event with Clare Short opening with a concise and measured attack on the government’s foreign policy and how we need the UN to do something better than it does now. In the discussion that followed there was plenty of idealism, with a dose of scepticism from some quarters, yet all set in a context that was hard to define – how will this campaing work, how will it be run? Time will tell, but don’t hold your breath.

  1. A more democratic UN would be great. If the present campaign doesn’t succeed, The Simultaneous Policy could effectively facilitate this.
