You might have read some of the other entries here and thought "what is this guy on about". That’s for sure the way I feel when reading many blogs! So here’s an idea to do something about it. There are 2 tests that give a good idea of what a person is like, and can act as a sort of guide to why they are saying what they are – the Myers-Briggs personality test and Political Compass.

Myers-Briggs Personality Test
This is one of the best known personality tests, and while I am often very sceptical about this kind of thing, Myers-Briggs has come up with results that seem so scarily accurate for people I know well that I am tempted to trust it even for people I know less well. Have a look at the following links, send the link to some friends, and then put the results on your blog.

If you get "NT" in the middle of your result, you are a rational. Have a look at this link for more – http://keirsey.com/personality/nt.html
I am proudly an ENTJ – fieldmarshal and, scarily, like Bill Gates or Margaret Thatcher… That puts me in a group with 2% of the population.

Political Compass
The idea here is somewhat simpler. Answer a lot of questions about politics and your answers put you on a grid based on left-right, and libertarian-authoritarian axes. You can also check where you stand in comparison to famous people. My result here is -6, -6, meaning I am quite strongly left-libertarian, putting me close to Gandhi on the graph.

Compass
(adapted from Political Compass)
Take the positions of the leaders here with a pinch of salt though – that’s where the policies of their parties would place them, rather that what they actually believe about the subjects.

Enjoy the tests, and upload your results! Or feel free to comment here…

  1. Ooops. Just taken the test again and now I’m:
    Economic Left/Right: -7.75
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.10

I’m going further left… What’s going on? Must be all the time I’m spending in the Nordic countries.
