Austrian Presidency logoNew year, new EU Presidency, and a new debate about the European Constitution? This week should make things a bit clearer I hope… Friday and Saturday this week the Austrian Presidency of the Council of the EU is hosting a conference in Salzburg amusingly entitled “Sound of Europe“, and I am luck enough to be able to attend. More (unofficial) info here too. Now, aside from the obvious question as to whether Wolfgang Sch√?ssel does at least have a sense of humour by giving the conference that name, the event should start to give us some answers as to where the European Union is heading in 2006 and beyond. I’ll post here as much as I can during the conference.

Margot Wallström states in her blog that she is going to the Sound of Europe conference Рsee her blog here. She says that:

Europe???s writers, artists, scientists and musicians as well as the so-called ???ordinary people in the street??? must also be involved in this debate.

Not sure which of those I really fall into… Anyway, I’ll do my best to get news even from the conference onto the blog – should be a WLAN somewhere in Salzburg city centre or in the conference centre. We are going to be treated to Jan-Peter Balkenende and Dominique de Villepin, among others, so I’m sure there will be plenty of things to write critical comments about!
