I winced when I read this article in The Guardian that veteran crooner Cliff Richard felt so sorry for Tony Blair in the aftermath of going to war in Iraq that he let Blair go and stay in his summer house in Barbados for free. I don’t know what makes me feel worst – that the Blairs know Cliff Richard, that the PM needed pity, that there are plenty of other people in the world that need pity far more, or that Cliff’s motivation seemed to be linked to sharing Blair’s Christian faith. Let’s hope that frugal Gordon won’t do such things!
